Inspired by their successful unveiling of the popular children's sculpture Blue Dragon in Southpoint Park, the Roosevelt Island Visual Art Association opens a new exhibit, Shades of Blue, at their main gallery at 527 Main Street on Saturday, June 4. The public is invited to a reception from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Shades of Blue includes artwork from the artist collective's most popular members, Georgette Sinclair, Ioan Popoiu, Toshiko Kitano Groner, Tad Sudol, Piaskowski, Laura Hussey and others. The works range form abstract paintings to sculpture to fine art photography, all with themes of blue.

An important innovation for this show is a partnership with the Marlins Roosevelt Island Swim Team, which brings youngsters with a fresh slant to the gallery.

The Daily will be there and plans to follow up with a review and online gallery of the highlights from Shades of Blue.
