RIVAA Celebrates a Decade

The Way We Were: A Nostalgic Look Back at Vernissage 10

David Stone

In March, 2011, RIVAA welcomed visitors to its 10th Annual Vernissage at their 527 Main Street Gallery on Roosevelt Island.

I'd started covering art for the Main Street WIRE, then, in what feels like prehistory now, in the days before FDR Four Freedoms Park replaced the rustic south end of Roosevelt Island with its graceful memorial, before Cornell Tech was even on the horizon, and at a time when we stopped at Trellis before and after events like this.

As we get ready to celebrate RIVAA's Vernissage 16, I decided to take a look back at my video of the first spring open show I covered. Click here to enjoy a short flashback to a surprisingly very different time.
