Like a messenger arriving to clear up confusion sewn about local democracy, Community Board 8 will hold its monthly Full Board Meeting for May at the Manhattan Park Theatre Club on Wednesday.

Starting with Robert Wagner's administration seventy years ago, New Yorkers have participated in democracy at a level rarely offered anywhere else. Community Boards were set up to seek direct input from everyday citizens into the workings of local government. 

CB Members are appointed by the Borough President with half being nominated by City Council Members. Current Roosevelt Islanders active in CB 8 include Jeffrey Escobar, Ellen Polivy, Lynne Strong-Shinozaki and Sharon Pope. In general, their work involves...

Escobar also chairs a Roosevelt Island specific committee.

You are invited to observe their monthly deliberations on May 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Manhattan Park Theatre Club. You are also welcomed to address the group with any concerns. All you need to is register to speak before 6:45 p.m.
