Be prepared to have your ideas about older artists changed. Earlier this year, the CBN/RI Senior Center obtained a SU-CASA grant from the City's Department of Cultural Affairs that enabled Michael Sherman to hold regular art classes at the Center. On June 28th, we get to appreciate the results.

Many artists, including Pablo Picasso and, currently, 96 year old Wayne Thiebaud, work long into their senior years.

What this new exhibit, People, Places & Things, aims to show is that well-aged senior juices of creativity run abundantly here. Local residents show their stuff using techniques learned from Sherman, spurred on by his encouragement and guidance.

"The exhibition is a culmination of a six-month program called SU-CASA which gave the seniors the chance to study under the instruction of teaching artist Michael Sherman – whose 10 years of experience as an artist includes teaching and implementing large-scale public projects," according to a spokesperson.

The unveiling with a  public reception is on the calendar for 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., June 28th. Sherman, along with Carter Burden Network Executive Director William Dionne, will be on hand to host the event.
