It's a Big Weekend for Cultural and Community Events, Starting Tonight

Improving just in time for a pleasant spring weekend, fair weather eases in for art and theatre openings along with cultural events for stargazers and bird lovers. There's plenty to do, right here on Roosevelt Island, starting tonight.

Tonight at 8:00, Roosevelt Island's Mihut Studio premieres People of Platonovka, based on Anton Chekov's first play, in the Howe Theatre at the Cultural Center. Get details on tickets, times and three additional shows over the weekend on their webpage. Shows continue through the weekend.

On Saturday, from 6:00 to 9:00, Gallery RIVAA, 527 Main Street, welcomes Another East, featuring contemporary Romanian painting, with a free public reception in the gallery. This show is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute. The outstanding international exhibit will be on view on Roosevelt Island only until June 9th.

Also on Saturday, from 7:00 to 11:00, iDig2Learn expects clear skies for OBAstronomy. "Stargazing, astronomy + astrophotography" is free and open to the public in Riverwalk Commons.
