Christmas Dreams, A Christmas Dance Celebration becomes real this weekend as the Call Me Crazy Dancers, lead by Roosevelt Island’s John and Kara Curtis, debut their latest original creation at the Howe Theatre at MST&DA in the Cultural Center, 548 Main Street. We were privileged to photograph the dancers in rehearsal.

Not long after their last show, On the Eve, wrapped up in December, 2016, John and Kara Curtis went back to work, choreographing and writing original music for Christmas Dreams.

In dance, Christmas Dreams orients movement and music around individuals who are shaken or even lost as they struggled to make Christmas special in their lives.

“One of the dancers in the story is a single mom trying to make it with her daughter who is also a dancer in the group,” is one example offered by the creative team.

“Another performer in the story lost a child in a tragic incident. She is trying to find faith at Christmastime when everyone is experiencing the joy of the season.”

As they did last year, the troupe dedicates a segment of the show to the tragedy at Sandy Hook that scarred America five years ago.

The show promises to be wonderfully eclectic and modern, built around four dream ballet sequences, combining ballet, jazz, tap and contemporary dance.
