The Roosevelt Island Historical Society continues its series of talks by authors of books about New York City's "other islands." On Thursday, September 12th, it's Carol Zoref, author of Barren Island, winner of the AWP Award for fiction. Barren Island also made the long list for a National Book Award.

"Barren Island is the story of a factory island in New York’s Jamaica Bay, where the city’s dead horses and other large animals were rendered into glue and fertilizer from the mid-19th century until the 1930’s.
