According to a report in the Main Street WIRE, where he served as editor and publisher for 20 years, Richard "Dick" Lutz died on Sunday in Sarasota, Florida, after suffering a massive heart attack.

Dick Lutz, a native of Dunkirk in Western New York, brought vigor, insight and quality journalism to the Main Street WIRE, taking over as editor and publisher in 1996. The WIRE was founded by Dr. Jack Resnick as a vital resource for Roosevelt Island as its community began taking shape in the 1970s.

Lutz mentored current editor-in-chief Briana Warsing before turning over reins of the newspaper in 2016.

One of Lutz's proudest achievements was his novel, co-authored with his father Aloysius Lutz, Jadwiga's Crossing, published in 2006. He talked of finishing the story of a young woman's coming to America in the Polish migration during summer afternoons in Lighthouse Park.

Additional details are not yet available, but the WIRE has promised a full obituary in its next issue.
