Winners in Race for CBN/RI Senior Center Advisory Council

The Carter Burden Network's Advisory Council works as a kind of participant level eyes and ears presence at the Senior Center, helping to guide decisions and activities. Elections were held last week and winners by popular vote for President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer were announced.

President: Louella Streitz (Runner Up: Ron Davidson)

Vice President: Wendy Hersh (Runner Up: Nancy Brown)

Secretary: Mary Coleman (Runner up: Emily Carr)

Treasurer: Caridad Fraga (Runner up: Sonia Jang)

According to its by laws, the Roosevelt Island Senior Center Advisory Council is "solely self-governed and is an independent council elected to provide assistance to the participants of the RISC and the administrative staff."

Officers must be at least 60 years of age and serve two year terms.

Among their responsibilities are:

  • Creating a code of conduct
  • Monitoring a comment/suggestion box
  • Promoting fundraising activities
  • Political activism, for the benefit of participants
As the CBN/RI Senior Center's first Advisory Council, their work breaks new ground and forms a bond with Senior Center management which will guide all future Councils.
