Although in the great tradition of Hollywood's inability to leave facts alone, the story of Nellie Bly's exposing the horrors of incarceration in Roosevelt Island's madhouse for women is radically fictionalized, the horror and location are not.

Beginning January 19th on Lifetime Television, Escape from the Madhouse, starring Christina Ricci and Judith Light, dramatizes the horrors of 19th and 20th Century mental institutions, specifically those set aside for women.
