F Trains Again Do the Weekend Switcheroo with E Trains

As the MTA shuts down areas during weekends to clear them for upgrades and repairs, train reassignments can seem bizarre, such as when the F is rerouted along the E Line and the E gets rerouted along the F as will happen starting tomorrow evening at 9:45. But there's method to the madness, and we get regular subway service with somewhat different connections within Manhattan.

When I posted on Tuesday that we'd be without F Train service in both directions, this weekend, a more levelheaded reader, Larry Parnes, dropped me a note pointing out what I missed (but shouldn't have.) E Trains will run through the Roosevelt Island Station, providing uninterrupted service while the F goes another way.

(See full details below.)

Parnes, a former City Planning employee, was our reliable expert on the Cornell Tech ULURP when I covered that year long process for the WIRE. Since, he's occasionally volunteered corrections when he spots a mistake.

Among his many appreciated contributions is the photograph above, which he snapped and forwarded, noting that the MTA was trying to do a better job of communicating with riders.

You'd need a more in-depth understanding of the intricacies of subway tracks and supporting infrastructure to understand why it makes sense than I have. But it works. So, following the advice below, extracted from the MTA's Weekender online service, and barring anything unexpected, your travel should be normal.
