Winning selection in "Sketch for Freedom"
During six of this summer's balmiest weeks, Four Freedoms Park Conservancy invited artists to visit the Park and create works based on the theme "Sketch 4 Freedom." Yesterday they announced the winner, Walking on Freedom 3 by Hugo Costa.

"Four Freedoms Park Conservancy is thrilled to announce the winner of its inaugural “Sketch 4 Freedom” Contest: Hugo Costa’s “Walking on Freedom 3”. Hugo will receive a $300 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and a Four Freedoms Park swag bag.

"The theme of our first contest was the “Four Freedoms,” in celebration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s pivotal 1941 address. Artists were encouraged to explore the meaning and legacy of the four freedoms and how those freedoms relate to art, expression, the built environment, and life in the 21st century more broadly.

"Dozens of sketches of the Park were submitted to this year’s sketch contest running from July 1 – August 15, 2017. The top six submissions were selected by a jury of artists and architects. The public declared the winner by vote."
