FIGMENT Hits the Horizon, Community Board 8 Jumps on the Bandwagon

Dreams of a major New York City art event on Roosevelt Island continue taking shape as FIGMENT peaks over the horizon with its June 1st opening date set. Community Board 8 has organized a session to help us learn more, including how we can participate, on February 21st.

As we reported in September, RIOC, led by President/CEO Susan Rosenthal and community liaisons Erica Spencer-EL and Jessica Murray, scored a win, convincing the event's organizers to stage 2019's FIGMENT on Roosevelt Island in Lighthouse Park.

Previously, Governors Island played host.

At the time of the announcement, RIOC had this to say about FIGMENT, expected to draw a large influx of tourists and other first time visitors on June 1st and 2nd:

"The City of Dreams Pavilion will be a gathering place for people to meet, learn about the arts programs on Roosevelt Island, enjoy a performance or lecture, and enjoy this temporary structure. The theme for the pavilion, the City of Dreams, points toward the future. If we imagine a future New York City where anything is possible, what would it look like? In our wildest and most optimistic dreams, what is the future of the city?"

On Sunday, Community Board 8 Roosevelt Island Committee Chair Lynne Strong-Shinozaki announced:

The Roosvelt Island Committee of Manhattan Community Board 8 will be hosting a presentation on
FIGMENT

When: Thursday February 21st 6:30 pm
Where: Good Shepherd 543 Main St Upper Level
Learn what this project is all about.

David Loren the Executive Producer will be presenting FIGMENT.

Everyone is invited to the free event.

New York City Today, In Soho where Gucci goes ugly…

An ugly esthetic creeps south of Houston, filling up a wall on Lafayette Street, just below Prince. What the hell kind of branding is this? Have idiots taken over Madison Avenue?
