NYPD saved a life on Roosevelt Island on Tuesday. Swift action and skilled training stopped a threatened suicide jump. A male Roosevelt Island resident perched outside the rail at the northwest corner of Motorgate's roof, shortly after 8:00. After nearly two hours, NYPD officers persuaded him to climb back to safety.

In the meantime, NYPD inflated a bubble to cushion a fall or a jump, greatly increasing the chances of survival.

The inflated bubble set beneath the potential jump is already deflated, and Main Street traffic may return to normal soon.
