Fadner Becomes Assistant Executive Director

MST&DA Taps Kimbirdlee Fadner to Bring Energy, Talent to Leadership

Updated 24 weeks ago David Stone

Artist, actor, teacher, singer, mom, wife and more, Kimbirdlee Fadner has been chosen to join Executive Director Kristi Towey in charging Roosevelt Island's Main Street Theatre & Dance with energy and fresh ideas as Assistant E.D. "From day one, when I came in to sub for "Annie," the children's musical, which my husband Jonathan was music directing, I had a feeling that MSTDA was special," said Fadner. "MSTDA quickly became my theatre home and the folks here are like family!" Now, more than ever.

"I am thrilled to be working with Kim in this new role," Towey enthused about the hiring. "She has already done so much to contribute to MST&DA and I look forward to furthering our mutual goal of serving and providing quality performing arts to the community of Roosevelt Island with her."

You can become exhausted pretty quickly just trying to keep up with Kimbirdlee Fadner.

365 days a year, she's the mother of Charliehorse and Jackrabbit, 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 years respectively, and wife - and creative partner - of Jonathon, a talented musician who serves as Executive Director of Common Man Musicals, a platform from which they create and stage musical theatre.

Kimbirdlee was last seen performing on Roosevelt Island while caroling at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, her lively family along for the seasonal fun.

But before that, she acted in You Can Always Come Home (see video above), a production of new one-act plays Common Man Musicals staged at the Howe Theatre under the umbrella of Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance.

Premiering last summer, another Common Man Musicals production, Northanger Abbey, found Kimbirdlee performing as lead actress with Jonathan directing music from his perch behind the piano again.

Enough to keep any ordinary human tied up 24/7.

But there's more, as Towey relates, "In addition to her new position as Assistant Executive Director, she is currently the director of MST&DA’s Children’s Musical Theatre program."

"The Fadners are recipients of a 2018 QCA (Queens Council on the Arts) New Works Grant for "The Monkey King: A Kungfusical" which was originally commissioned by Main Street Theatre & Dance as this Spring’s children’s musical. As a teaching artist, she also offers private voice, acting and piano lessons and teaches musical theatre throughout NYC."

(Catch your breath..."

"Kimbirdlee is also an accomplished actor and singer and will be playing John Adams in 1776 at MST&DA on March 23rd - 25th."

As the new Assistant E.D. muses, "Kristi and I share in our overall mission to give back and grow with the creative and diverse community of Roosevelt Island and beyond. Students of the arts who have a positive and nurturing environment in which to hone their talents have a greater chance of spreading their wings with confidence and success.

"The amazing thing is that Broadway is literally a quick leap just over the river. MSTDA offers great opportunities to all ages, especially kids, and I couldn't be happier to join in these efforts."

And she adds, "I believe that everyone on Roosevelt Island who has that glimmer of a dream to act, sing, dance, direct... whatever it may be, can find a start at MSTDA."

In Towey's announcement, she asks everyone to welcome Kimbirdlee Fadner to her expanded role on Roosevelt Island. We can all expect plentiful opportunities to do that as Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance's pace quickens into the new year.
