After more than a year of waiting, Roosevelt Island soccer fans can breathe again, almost. Octagon Field is putting on its new outfit, right now.

All summer, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation promised that Octagon Field, closed since June, 2018, blamed for wrecking sports and closing a business, would reopen in September.

That appears to be coming true. Crews began installing the new carpet on Saturday. Once that's done and final touches polish off the project, expect RIOC to make a big deal over letting kids race across the turf safely, dreaming of balls soaring toward nets.

Yeah, it's closed, but not for long.

And a big deal it will be as the restored athletic field will be renamed after retired PSD chief and legendary soccer coach Jack McManus.

Looks good, and now for the big finish.
