Much anticipated, opening PupCulture at 544 Main Street promises a vibrant splash of pumpkin-toned, pet-friendly commerce for Roosevelt Island's struggling retail core.

Variously titled "PupCulture" in Hudson Related's initial press release and "pupculture" in its signage and brochures, Main Street Retail's newest tenant presents itself as something a step up from the routine pet care business.

A theme, "It's more than a service... It's a culture!" resonates in how they explain their approach, placing "a strong emphasis on individualized attention."

"All dogs," for example, "are walked several times daily," but not in the sidewalk-clogging packs you see on the Upper East Side. Either, they go out alone with a walker or with "a maximum of one other dog," making sure no pup gets lost in the crowd.

Going to the dogs...

PupCulture's setup includes multiple pens that allow grouping dogs according to size and temperament. Rubber floors go easy on joints and muscles, and continuous fresh air is climate controlled.

To be safe, PupCulture requires proof of current vaccinations.

For dogs that are not boarded, PupCulture offers walking as well as in-home feeding, on call or according to a set schedule. Walkers are available every day.

Feeding and fresh water can be arranged to meet your pets' needs.

And you can also coax out your pup's grace and beauty with certified, professional groomers.

"Each dog receives a gentle bath using only the finest products, including hypoallergenic and oatmeal shampoos for more sensitive dogs, as well as a soothing and moisturizing conditioner."

Less glamorous needs, like toothbrushing and ear-cleaning are offered, too.

Finally, a small boutique "features luxury items for the pampered pet and pet lover."

Roosevelt Island's all-new PupCulture at 544 Main Street is just a phone call (212-371-8901) away, or reach them by email: pupcultureri@gmail.com.
