Today, RIOC announced that it's co-sponsoring a reusable bag giveaway at Foodtown on Wednesday afternoon. Approximately 500 bags will be handed out. City Council Member Ben Kallos and Borough President Gale Brewer join in, helping residents prepare for the ban on most plastic bags that begins on Sunday, March 1st.

Kallos participation is noteworthy. His bill, passed by the the City in 2017, accelerated New York on the way to banning the bags statewide.

"RIOC is proud to be one of the sponsors of the reusable bags that Roosevelt Island’s children will be distributing in front of Foodtown on Wednesday, February 26th at 3:30 PM.," RIOC said. "Come out and get your free bag!"

Foodtown added, "We will be raffling off some products in the store as well for the event."
