With an existential crisis facing the Roosevelt Island Youth Program, a group of concerned parents makes an appeal as a vote that will mean life or death for the program is set for Thursday's RIOC Board Meeting. We are publishing the full text of their outreach without editing, except for graphic features we cannot duplicate.

The Roosevelt Island Youth Program, Inc. will be forced make this announcement on Thursday evening March 1:

The Roosevelt Island Youth Program, Inc. (RIYP) and its After-School Program, Evening Program, Sports Program, and Youth Center Operations will CLOSE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

ONLY YOU CAN STOP IT!

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corp. (RIOC) will vote this Thursday, March 1 on a measure to approve the selection of the Roosevelt Island Youth Program, Inc. (RIYP) to continue as the Youth Center operator, as RIYP has won the Request for Proposals (RFP) process.  RIYP has gone through two RFP processes for RIOC funding, winning both.

RIYP has been servicing the Roosevelt Island community for 40 years and has had an impact on many generations of its residents.

Click HERE to send a message to the RIOC board members and elected representatives.  Let them know that you strongly encourage them to vote and approve RIYP as the Youth Center operator.  Let them know you support RIYP to continue and expand youth services that have served Island youth and the entire Island community.  Let them know you are concerned about the void left behind if the vote is not approved and RIYP is required to shut down all operations.  Feel free to add your own personal message.

Also, it would be helpful if you can speak or say a few words in support for RIYP during the Public Session at the RIOC Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 1 at 5:30 PM at the Manhattan Theater Club (8 River Road).  Please sign up to speak at https://rioc.ny.gov/speakup.htm or leave an online comment if you can't attend the meeting.  Most importantly, click HERE to send the email to RIOC executives and elected representatives.  If the venue changes due to the expected high attendance, we will keep you informed.

Thank you for your valuable time.

Parents in Support of RIYP,

Ms. Katerina Efthymiadou

Ms. Dolores Cornier

Ms. Evangelina Cifliganec
