Roosevelt Island Seniors Hit The Road, Thanks To CBN And Anonymous Sponsor

David Stone

As the Carter Burden Network settles into its second full year of revitalizing the Roosevelt Island Senior Center, adventurous field trips increasingly enrich the lives of our older residents. Here are some views from recent excursions to the Food and Drink Museum and Belmont Park.

According to its website, "MOFAD is a new kind of museum that brings the world of food to life with exhibits you can taste, touch, and smell. We inspire public curiosity about food, what it means, and how it connects with the world around us."

Roosevelt Island's traveling seniors seem to agree.

"It was our good fortune to be recipients of this wonderful outing to Belmont Park....free...thanks to an anonymous donor, who we were lucky enough to have finally met today and thank her for her generosity and including our Roosevelt Island seniors in this experience."

"We had a total of 120 participants from 4 Carter Burden Network Centers," reported CBN/RI Senior Center Director Lisa Fernandez, "28 participants from Roosevelt Island."

"It was a wonderful day at the races! Lunch, a complimentary $2 voucher to bet in any race,  also winners circle and a paddock tour, and because we were able to use the  CBN bus, we could include differently abled clients as well."
