Macy's Moves The Show South

Where Roosevelt Islanders Can -- and Can't -- See 4th of July Fireworks, This Year

Roosevelt Islanders expecting to see Macy's 4th of July fireworks without exiting the Island, this year, are going to be disappointed. Macy's is giving Brooklyn and Downtown Manhattan a chance to enjoy the show locally in 2019.

Whether from Southpoint or in the limited accessibility of FDR Four Freedoms Park, many of us have enjoyed the spectacle lighting the sky, reflecting off glass towers in Manhattan and Queens, on mild July evenings after sundown.

But it won't be repeated, this year.

RIOC notified local media a while back that, as reported in TimeOut, "The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks are set off along the Brooklyn Bridge and from barges along Pier 17 in the Seaport District."

Although likely to be intensely crowded, Brooklyn Heights offers great viewing, but all things considered, your best bet is to find a friend who can get you into a waterfront building downtown where you can watch from the windows.

And consider TimeOut's 4th of July Guide. It's filled with activities.
