We asked RIOC public information office Terrence McCauley to tell us what's open and what's closed. In addition to all Island restaurants (with restrictions) and almost all businesses, here's what's open:

Open Areas

  • Comfort Stations at Lighthouse Park and Southpoint Park
  • Outdoor Tennis Courts – by using our reservation system here
  • All public playgrounds - including dog runs
  • Pony Field and Capobianco Field – for exercise only

RIOC asks that all park goers take extra precautions to stay healthy and safe. While solo exercise is okay, team sports (such as basketball, football, softball, and soccer) are not permitted in our parks at this time. Please maintain at least 6 feet of distance between yourself and others when outside and avoid congregating in groups. For more information, please click here.

Closed Areas

  • McManus Field and Firefighters Field
  • Sportspark
  • All public cooking areas
  • All basketball hoops and soccer goals will not be available

According to New York Forward guidelines, team sports will not be permitted in New York City until the region has reached or surpassed Phase 3 requirements. New York City is currently in Phase 2. For more information on sports and New York Forward, please click here.

New York Phase 3 begins on Monday June 6th, and RIOC "will take a look at where the region is after the holiday weekend and make any relevant announcements next week."
